Yoga

Yoga is an ancient and time proven science of mind – body health. Yoga originated in India 5000 years ago. It came to the US and the West in the 60s and became popular and mainstream in the 80s and 90s. Yoga creates strength, awareness and harmony in both mind and body. The first yoga text appeared around 2000 BC by Patanjali and teaches the following to “eight limbs” (the “Ashtanga Yoga”) to quiet the mind and connect with the divine.

Yoga is the practice of connecting breath and mind with the physical movement. A yoga class typically consists of some breathing exercises, asanas (poses) and relaxation/meditation.

Hatha Yoga

Traditional Hatha Yoga combines moral disciplines, physical exercises (i.e., postures and breath control), and meditation, and goes beyond the mere physical aspects of yoga practice. Hatha Yoga was invented to provide a form of physical purification and training on the journey to enlightenment. There are many other health benefits provided by practicing Hatha yoga in addition to its use as a path to enlightenment.
